The internet is for porn? kaBLOG on harmful content -- 1 November 2007

Are you troubled by pornographic materials on the internet? Do you consider it damaging? Or is it a valid expression of fantasy or of diverse forms of sexualities?

Have you been harmed by sexually explicit and/or violent content through information and communications technologies? How have you dealt with this in your own use of the internet, mobile phone etc.?

Do you think the government should legislate on this issue? Or should it be left to the individual to choose what to access, communicate and share? What about the role of the private sector? Or communities of content creators, technology developers and users? How can the right to safety stand with the right to communicate when it comes to harmful content?

Share your thoughts! APC WNSP invites you to Take Back The Tech, and let your experiences and thoughts count.

On 12-15 November 2007, the second Internet Governance Forum (IGF) will be held in Brazil, where civil society, the private sector and governments will meet to discuss about policy directions and priorities on the deployment of the internet globally. Among the issues discussed is should and how content on the internet be regulated.

We have seen governments and other groups use the language of protecting society -- especially women and children -- from harm to justify various forms internet censorship. What do you think?
