Contribute to IGF Best Practice Forum Report on Online VAW, 9 Oct at 14 GMT

We are working with the Best Practice Forum to develop a comprehensive report on online VAW, which will be presented at the Internet Governance Forum 2015 as a best practice guideline, and we want your input.

You can participate in the following ways:
  • Join the Twitter conversation on 9 October at 14 GMT

(Find your time zone.) Help us get responses to this question: What impact does online violence have on women and girls? Use #takebackthetech to contribute examples to #IGF2015 official report on #EVAW. And share your own examples!

  • Sign up to let Headtalker tweet for you.

Headtalker is similar to Thunderclap. It will tweet the above message once from your account at 14 GMT. Donate your tweet by clicking here

  • Share the Headtalker request with your network

Encourage them to participate in the conversation. We need their examples of harm, and we will collect tweets using #takingbackthetech to incorporate into the official report.

Join Our Campaign to Improve Facebook

We have been working with a coalition of Indian and Pakistani activists as well as organisations from around the world to pressure Facebook to make changes to their "real name" policy, which puts survivors of violence, transgender persons, political activists and more at risk. Anonymity is critical for survivors of intimate partner violence, who have just as much right to use Facebook as everyone else.

From the aciton site: "Even though Facebook claims it has improved its policy, users continue to get kicked off the site, losing access to support groups, an essential political platform, and all their contacts and content. Some users have even had accounts reinstated with their legal names, putting their safety at risk."

Go to the action site to learn more, share our letter to Facebook and sign the petition. You can also find translations of the letter here.
