Bytes for All and P@SHA

 

 

 

Bytes for All (http://bytesforall.net/) and Jehan Ara, president of Pakistan Software Houses for IT and ITES Association - P@sha (http://www.pasha.org.pk) have joined forces to Take Back the Tech! in Pakistan and use ICTs to raise awareness about violence against women.

In 2009, the Pakistan Take Back the Tech campaigners promoted TBTT and VAW in Pakistan in all possible spaces, online and off - in Twitter, digital TV, Facebook, and on the radio, via videocasts, ka-blogging, and press conferences, by the end of the campaign, there were even Take Back the Tech songs.

Bytes for All (B4All) is a networked space for citizens in South Asia. It experiments, highlights and organizes debate on the relevance of ICT to development activities. South Asia - often considered as an ICT powerhouse, is also the home of highest number of poor people in the World. Shahzad Amad leads the Take Back the Tech! initiative for Bytes for All.

P@SHA was initiated by a number of software houses in an attempt to create a functional trade association for the IT industry in Pakistan. P@SHA acts as a voice of the industry, providing input on policies,,legislation and incentives related to the industry.  Take Back the Tech! in Pakistan is spearheaded by P@SHA president Jehan Ara.

Speak up against Marital Rape

This poster was created by a young communication designer - Rabeea Arif - from Pakistan. It addresses a major problem that is often not considered a problem at all. A woman is often considered "owned" by the man who marries her and hence she is expected to give in to his desires anytime he demands it often resulting in "force" being used.
