Day 13 | Meet Betty: Public profile | Campaign spotlight: Mexico
Meet Betty, a young woman from Morelos, Mexico. Her story speaks about the different connections and interactions that she encounters through online social networking – some of them expected and welcomed, some of them a little less straightforward. It’s also about how Betty exercises her judgment and discretion in dealing with them.
How do you exercise your judgment and right to privacy in online social networking spaces?
Day 11 | Strategies to be safe | What would you do?
“The past summer I had gone on a cruise with a close friend. She and I met two brothers, who had taken an interest in us. After much dancing and drinking together, I began to feel sick. One of the brothers helped me back to my cabin, taking care of me as I became almost physically impaired. I eventually passed out.
Day 3 | Violence & mobile phones | What’s the story?
Mobile phones have often been forwarded as an affordable solution to enabling internet access, especially for those from developing. According to recent research, there are currently 6 billion mobile subscribers worldwide, which is equivalent to 87% of the world’s population.
Day 2 | From mythology to reality | Stories that matter
Today we share with you a folk story. Folklores and fairytales are the earliest form of education, embodying collective wisdom and memory of a community through each retelling. It is a form of living history that allows the audience and storyteller to reinterpret and critically reflect about meanings and power in this world, and our places in them.
16 Days x 16 Stories: Tell. Listen. Act.
The act of storytelling is transformative.
When you tell a story, you are defining the experience. You are naming the actors, narrating the event, framing the values and deciding which details matter. In other words, you are constructing reality.
When you listen to a story, you are allowing your point of view to be shifted, and be immersed into another reality. When you listen actively, you are also moved through more profound understanding.
